Birthdays and Adventures: October 2018 at a Glance

October was the longest month in the history of months, but I had a lot of fun!

Yo, October was a trip! So much happened and of course I can't remember anything.
The biggest event was that I turned 30, so in true Amber fashion, I had a Disney-inspired party. It was great to hang out with friends, even though I had a mid-life crisis leading up to it.

Right after my birthday, I hopped on a plane to go to my last library conference of the year and boy, outreach library workers are a blast! I had a lot of fun but didn't really get to explore the city I was in and was happy to say that I was done with the conference season.

My cousins both decided to have babies (within a month of each other) so I attended back-to-back baby showers which were fun and also filled with the dreaded "so when are you having kids" question. One of these days they'll stop asking me about it.

And lastly Halloween! Matt and I made last-minute DIY projects that I really loved. We dressed up as the aliens from Toy Story.

I had an interesting blogging and reading month. I DNF'd the most books I ever have in my life purely because I wasn't in the mood. I think I left like 5 October ARCs unreviewed and I don't even feel bad about it. I swear, 2019 I'm only requesting books that I'm super hype about, because I've been dreading having to read my review copies.

One thing I did was post less on the blog. For years, I posted five days each week and I now post three days a week which is much more manageable. I don't know how I used to do it for days, but I'm just too busy. This is also in anticipation of 2019 which I'm calling "The Year of Change" (TM).

I read 10 books which, magically, was my goal for the month as well.
My favorite read was A Sorrow Fierce and Falling (5 stars) while my least favorite reads were I Believe in a Thing Called Love and Her Festive Flirtation (2 stars).

November I plan on doing the same. I've got about three November ARCs I need to read (and review). We'll see if I do that or shirk responsibility (again). I can't wait to start reading and watching all of the holiday stuff though! Matt and I went to Michaels on Sunday to plan out our Christmas decorations and I can't wait to get into the spirit! I also hope to read 12 books, wish me luck!

Lastly, I'm super excited about Black Friday Read-a-thon coming back! It'll be Friday, November 23 and it's a super chill read-a-thon in which the goal is to....read. Whether you're in line at the store or snuggled up in the blanket, I invite you to join us! Not Black Friday in your country? Join us for a reading on Friday!
