On Saturday, YA debut author Rena Barron held an author event at 57th Street Books in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago. It was an intimate event with a lot of great insight that has me itching to read Kingdom of Souls.
I've included some fun tidbits from the event, and I have to say, there were some really good questions from the audience!
- Rena is a Ravenclaw but the MC, Arrah, is a Slytherclaw
- Rena wrote a 3-5 page synopsis and lives for outlining
- Arrah's struggle to relate to her parents customs reflects being a Black America - we are from West Africa but have no cultural ties to it
- Rena's favorite part of the writing process is revising
- Rena believes that authors should feel the same emotions that they want readers to feel
- Rena's favorite character to write was Arrah's love interest
- Rena has a MG coming out in 2020!
It looked like the event was being recorded, so I'll definitely update this post when the audio becomes available in you're interested in hearing more about Rena Barron's craft and process.
