Les Petites Revues [#38]

Happy Friday! This mix bag includes secret societies and a satisfying fantasy ending.

Title: Ninth House (Alex Stern #1)
Author: Leigh Bardugo
Source: Library
Rating: 4.5 Stars

I was on the fence about this book (hype does that to me), but boy - Bardugo has outdone herself. Ninth House delved into the secret societies of Yale (which exist??) and tackled many mature themes while balancing a complex magic system. Alex Stern was an onion I wanted to unravel and I loved her complexities. The beginning was a bit confusing I'll admit because Bardugo threw the reader into the world without much explanation, but I appreciated how she explored Alex's past. The mystery was top notch and there were times where Ninth House reminded me of the adult version of The Diviners. This is a series I will enthusiastically follow.

Title: The Queen of Nothing (The Folk of the Air #3)
Author: Holly Black
Source: Purchased
Rating: 4 Stars

Holly Black has led us on a wild fae ride and The Queen of Nothing was a satisfying ending to all of the twists and turns that we've witnessed. Like the first two books, The Queen of Nothing was a quick read and didn't waste any time on filler. I was pulled in from the prologue and the epilogue left a smile on my face. My one complaint is that the ending felt a bit rushed and wasn't exactly what I expected, but I enjoyed the journey. The Folk of the Air was a special series, and I felt that Black's ending did everyone justice.

Have you read any of the above?
What did you think about The Queen of Nothing?
Did you know that Ninth House is based on a LOT of fact? Because, WHAT?
