[Meme] Musing Monday [#13]

Hosted by Should Be Reading

Musing Mondays asks you to muse about one of the following each week…
• Describe one of your reading habits.
• Tell us what book(s) you recently bought for yourself or someone else, and why you chose that/those book(s).
• What book are you currently desperate to get your hands on? Tell us about it!
• Tell us what you’re reading right now — what you think of it, so far; why you chose it; what you are (or, aren’t) enjoying it.
• Do you have a bookish rant? Something about books or reading (or the industry) that gets your ire up? Share it with us!
• Instead of the above questions, maybe you just want to ramble on about something else pertaining to books — let’s hear it, then!

A: Love triangles. I am officially over love triangles. This is mostly because if a character doesn't choose who I think they should be with, I lose interest. I'm sort of nervous about Born Wicked because it's there is a very clear love triangle going on and if Cate doesn't pick who I think she should pick I will be DEVASTATED.

Also, Cassandra Clare (I'm pretty sure it was Cassandra Clare) made a pretty good point. Why are they called "Love Triangles?" It's not a triangle, if it was a triangle that would make things more interesting, but it's more like two boys (usually) set one girl as their target and both vie for her attention. It's a "V" and it's getting very formulaic. Why can't there just be one boy? Is it to make a trilogy more interesting?

How do you feel about love "triangles?" Love em? Hate em? Indifferent? Let me know below!

Q: Do you have a bookish rant? Something about books or reading (or the industry) that gets your ire up?

I haven't had this problem in a while but I HATE stalker protagonists  You know, the characters are who intrigued by the obvious love interest and pretty much follow said person wherever he/she goes. Yeah, kind of weird.

I also hate when the world isn't properly described. That is differently the difference between a five star book and a four star book.

Meme: Musing Monday [#11]

I MISS doing Musing Monday! :( A few months ago I had short Monday work days but now they've been extended (by like three hours) so I don't have the time on Monday mornings to talk books! Maybe I'll arrive late to the party and do it Monday nights. Hmmm... moving on.

Q: Tell us what you’re reading right now — what you think of it, so far; why you chose it; what you are (or, aren’t) enjoying it.
I just used my free audible credit for Unraveling by Elizabeth Norris. I'm really liking this one so far. I don't know if it's because it's an audiobook and I'm receiving information in a whole new format (by ear), but I really feel connected to the characters.

I also picked up the Liar Society. This book is definitely throwing me for a loop. I thought it was going to be some cutsey middle-grade-ish book but man....it's not.

Q: Do you read the ending before you start a book? Do you ever skip ahead to read the ending?

HELL NO. I treat the back of the book like the frickin plague! Hell I treat the half way mark like the plague! So when I do my Teaser Tuesdays I'm extra careful because I don't want to spoil it for myself!

Q: Do you have people online that you often discuss the books you read with? Not just book groups, but individual readers who share the same taste in books? If so, what do you like best about this? If not, do you wish you did?

I have a few people that I gush over books with, but in general I talk to any blogger that is willing to talking about bookish things. That's what I love about book bloggers, there are so many books I wouldn't have known existed if it wasn't for this community. Besides, what's the point of blogging if you have no one to share your books with?

Q:Do you ever get crushes on fictional characters? Name one (or a few), and tell what you liked…

To  be honest, I don't get crushes on fictional characters often, they have to be something really special for me to fall head over heels. One that I can think of is Raffe from Angelfall. I LOVE HIM SO MUCH AND I MISS AND HIM AND I WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT HIM. ._.

How about you?

Q: Do you have a system as to which books to read from your “requested review pile?  What is it?  What about when there are too many to read in a certain time frame?

This is a problem! I don't have a system, it's what ever catches my fancy! Like right now, I have an ARC of The Lost Prince so I have been trying to finish the last two books so that my review for The Lost Prince comes out in time for the release. I'm half way through with The Iron Knight when I decide I want to read Feed to get into the Halloween spirit. -_-

I SUCK.

Q: Do you have a favorite series? Do you have a favorite book out of that series?

Hmm....series. Usually with series I LOVE the first book but am indifferent to the rest of the novels in that series. It's also hard for me to choose because usually I take forever to pick up the next book in the series. There are so many books on my shelf that are apart of the series  but I don't have the rest. o.O

It goes without a doubt that Harry Potter is one of my favorite series. My favorite book was probably the fourth one, Goblet of Fire. That or Prisoner of Azkaban. I LOVED those two books! I also loved how easy it was for me to become an emotional wreck.

I also love the Chicagoland Vampire series by Chloe Neill for two obvious reasons. The Chicago love and the kick ass heroine. From that series, I think the first installment, Some Girls Bite is my favorite.

Oh and I can't believe I almost forgot! The Dark Hunter series by Sherrilyn Kenyon! Although I haven't been the biggest fan of the recent books. the first like 12 hold special places in my heart. My favorite will always be Seize the Night. Oh how I ADORE Valerius. <3

Link me to your Musing Monday and let's talk books!

Also! Du Livre is hosting it's very first meme these Thursday and I would love for people to help me out! Comment with your email and we can talk about it further!

Q: What distracts you when you really “should be reading”?

Man...everything. This year has not been a good year for me reading...at all. Recently though, school servse as a ridiculous distraction. I am taking two grad courses in English as a Second Language and my profs are all about projects and papers. And to make matters worse, I just started a new job where I teach and it's full time. So education is my entire life right now.

O.O

Here is to hoping that I can read more and maybe actually reach my GoodReads goal....

What is your least favorite book? Why?

I can't really say what my least favorite book is, but I can tell you what all of my not-so-fav books had in common: unlikeable characters and a writing style that did not grab my attention.

These two usually go hand in hand when the book is written from a character's point of view, which is very common in YA today. If I don't like the main character, chances are I'm not going to like what he/she has to say and thus not like the book.

Have you ever considered writing a book before? What genre would you write?

Back in High School I had so many notebooks filled with unfinished first drafts. They were all fantasy stories about faraway princesses and amazing adventures, back then I was 100% certain that I would get something published. Then life got in the way. I do toy around with the thought of writing a book, I would LOVE to have something that I could attach my name to, but I haven't had any creative ideas hit me yet. I do think that one day I will actually sit down and write a story, published or not, but it will probably have to wait until I have finished my Masters.

Do you snack while you read? If so, what is your favorite reading snack?

I don't snack at all. Actually, yesterday I tried eating some grapes while reading but I couldn't do both at the same time. It takes extra concentration for me I guess.

Musing Mondays [#1]

I've decided that I don't give memes enough love, so I'm starting another one! :) I hope all of the mothers had a fabulous day yesterday!

Do you tend to read to the end of a chapter or can you stop anywhere?

I make it my goal to get to the end of the chapter, but I have this nasty habit of falling asleep while reading. I don't know when it happens, I just know that I wake up with my nook/book on the ground. LUCKILY, I have a really good memory so if I didn't put a bookmark, I can usually remember the exact page I was on.
