Sincerely Sunday [#5]

This Week:

L'Enfant du Sable by Tahar Ben Jelloun

This book was chosen for me it was one of the required reading for class. It's about Ahmed who is the eighth daughter of her family, except she isn't. Her parents decide to raise her as a man so s/he is privy to some knowledge and activities that her family is not. Ahmed experiences a lot of gender confusion as s/he comes into her own and wonders what it is that she wants.

I really did enjoy this book. It's written in the first perspective so the reader gets a first hand look at all of Ahmed's confusion, like her arranged marriage. If you're into gender roles and things like that, I would recommend it, and honestly I would read it again.

This week:

The Other Boleyn Girl by Phillipa Gregory

This book follows the lives of the two Boleyn sisters, Mary and Anne, as they are summoned to court and driven apart by King Henry VIII's whims.

I picked this book up because The Other Boleyn Girl was coming out in theatres and I'm a big Tudor (mostly Anne Boleyn) buff so I knew that I had to read this! And boy, that was a wild ride. The amount of cunning on Anne's part was astonishing and the lengths she took to get what seh wanted.... and how messed up  her family was! I loved ALL of it!

This week:

Timeless (Timeless #1) by Alexandra Monir

I bought this book because I had just joined goodreads so I thought it would be cool to use my app to help m e choose my next book to read. Timeless had fabulous reviews and the cover was really pretty so it sounded like a win/win. Nope. I was not a fan of any aspect of the book.

The summary simply put is a young girl who is forced to live with her grossly rich grandparents and meets the boy of his dreams, except this boy lived during the 20th century. I'm all about impossible romance and time travel but this did nothing for me. I might borrow the sequel when it comes out

Sincerely Sunday [#2]

Anansi Boys by NEIL GAIMAN

This was the first Neil Gaiman novel I ever read. Yep, I picked up Sandman and was urged to read one of his written works. And I am so glad I did, I absolutely love this man. The book is about "Fat" Charlie who finds out that he has a (somewhat) evil twin. And to top it all off, his father is the African god Anansi.

This book is BEAUTIFULLY written with a plot that I still remember and smile about. If you haven't read anything by Neil Gaiman, I recommend you read this one first. Sure everyone is hyped up about American Gods, but this is my favorite one.

This week:

The Lying Game by SARA SHEPARD

I read this book because I was on my Pretty Little Liars high when this came out and the premise just sounded EXCITING. I mean, a girl who finds out she has a twin from a snuff film, only to find out that said twin has been murdered and has to resume her life. Isn't that just trippy??

I'm happy I've read this book, it wasn't a Pretty Little Liars copy and was a real page turner.  I highly recommend it for those who love teen drama.
