[Bout of Books] 5 Book Challenge
Alright, I'm back on track with challenges! Today's challenge comes from Taking Steps Into Another World. Here is the situation:
It is 11:00 PM on a Sunday night. You are laying in bed thinking about all of the things you must do the next day. Tasks of the coming days consume your thoughts and while your mind is somewhere else you are caught off guard by a flash in the sky that is followed by a large wailing screech that pierces the air and shatters your bedroom window. Slowly you move to the window and what you see catches your breathe and causes you to stumble back a few steps. The aliens (at least you think they are aliens) have began to enter the city and destroy everything that is in their path. Through the window your view is consumed with destruction, screaming people and large flames that are dancing across the city at a fast pace. You notice that the creatures are heading in your direction and you realize you probably have about fifteen minutes before they reach your home. That means you have only about ten minutes to gather your belongings and escape before you are caught in the attack from the aliens invading the city.
Given the short amount of time you are only able to take 5 books with you. What books would you pick to take with you as you escape and prepare for the end of the world. Would you choose books that would help you survive in the post-apocalyptic world ,books for pleasure that would make you happy and take you to a fantasy reality or books that you can’t live without?
So I choose......
Angelfall by Susan Ee: Penryn is someone I would follow in a post-apocalyptic world. She's loyal, resourceful and isn't picky about what she has to eat.
Feed by Mira Grant: This book will prepare me for a world post zombie (or even alien I guess) disaster.
The Winner's Curse by Marie Rutkoski: There is a pretty big chance that the aliens will win, so I gotta know what will happen to humanity if we are enslaved! Also, I love this novel's romance, it'll make me happy while we're being terrorized.
The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey: This one should be pretty self-explanatory.
Unspoken by Sarah Rees Brennan: I'm going to need to read this one just to block out the scary world
outside.
What books would you bring?
Weekly Wrap-Up: Aug 18-Aug 23, 2014
Monday: Musing Monday // Bout of Books Introduction
Friday: Of Triton Review // Bout of Books Day 4
Saturday: Bout of Books Day 5
I posted a lot this week, A LOT. Bout of Books was really fun though, I can't wait to do it next time. In real life news, I start my FINAL grad class ever. It feels weird, in fifteen weeks (and after I finally write my capstone paper) I'll FINALLY have my Masters Degree. Hopefully that means I'll get a good job (student woes). I've been thinking about getting a new design for the blog but I don't know what I want yet. Eh, I'll figure it out later I suppose. I hope you all have a fabulous week!
[Read-a-thon]Bout of Books 11: Day 6 Recap
The end is upon us! I think I've started to slow down from, but I'm happy to say that I've reached my goal! :)))
FINISHED! I was a bit hesitant about this book, but then things started happening and I couldn't tear my eyes away!
Started: 8/23/2014 (11PM)Currently on: Page 18Last night I had a hard time deciding what to read after Dorothy Must Die and none of my YA options caught my attention. So I decided to buy this novel after seeing all of the praise it received on Goodreads. Hopefully I like it as much as everyone else!
I didn't particpate in twitter chat or any challenges yesterday, mostly because I wasn't at home for 12 hours (but we got our wedding pictures so that makes up for my lack of reading! :P)

[Read-athon]Bout of Books 11: Day 5 Update
Alright! We're almost there, unfortunately I seem to be doing worse and worse as the days go by. Yesterday I hung out with my former co-workers (and boss) and stayed out a looot loner than I expected to (and drank a loootttt more than I expected to). I didn't do any challenges and I didn't finish Dorothy Must Die. BOO.
RECAP:

Currently on: Page 268 Big whoop, I read 38 pages. Maybe I'll actually finish this one today! I'm one book away from meeting my goal so I better not crap out now! :)
And to everyone else, HANG IN THERE! :)

[Read-a-thon]Bout of Books 11: Day 4 Recap
We're almost there guys! I didn't do a lot of reading yesterday (Thursday) because I was scheduling reviews for the books I have read for the challenge, as well as blog hopping!
RECAP:

Started on: Page 77Currently On: Page 240Hopefully I can finish this one today, although I am going out today so who knows. I like the concept a lot, Oz is such a dark place though! Nothing but death and mutilations. o.O

[Bout of Books]Like This? Try This
Today's challenge is based on recommendations! BoB-ers must give a recommendation based on a book, and explain why the recommendation aligns with the source books. Check out Writing my own Fairytale for more information!
LIKE THIS?
TRY THIS!
Why? Anna and the French Kiss follows Anna as she is uprooted from her home and transported to an international school in Paris, France. It's a story about a young girl finding love and learning how to balance both lives, her hometown life and her new Parisian life. Fangirl is very similar in the fact that Cath is uprooted from Omaha to attend university in Lincoln, a place where she knows no one. As she grows, she finds love and learns how to balance her online fandom life while maintaining her college relationships.
[Read-a-thon]Bout of Books 11: Day 3 Recap
Yesterday was a pretty good day. I finished two books and started a third. I'm sure I'll meet my goal of completing four books. I think I'll double my goal next Bout!
RECAP:

FINISHED!
Hours Listened: 3.5I really enjoyed this one, it brought me back to my university days which was pleasant and extremely awkward. I'll be working on this review today and hopefully it'll be live on the blog by next week.

FINISHED!Pages Read: 90
Finally I finished this one! In the end, I decided that it was a good red but it was definitely not my favorite of the series.

Started: 8/20/2014 (10:30PM)
Started: Page 77
Currently: Page 102
Pages Read: 28
I'm starting to enjoy this one. When I first started reading it, I had thought that there were way too many characters being introduced in such a short time, but now I feel like I've found my place in the book, like there is balance. If all goes according to plan, I would like to have this one finished by tomorrow.
PARTICIPATION:
Challenge(s): Create a (Bookish) Sentence
Twitter Chat: Check! Last night's chat didn't overwhelm me as much and I had a lot of fun!

[Bout of Books]Sentence Challenge
Hey all, only one challenge today and it comes from Jessica of Reviews of a Christian Gal. To participate in the challenge, you have to make a sentence using the first two words from your books. Yeah, tricky isn't it? Here we go!
I've started digging graves, I leaned against the demon.
Books used:
The Last Princess by Galaxy Craze
Slide by Jill Hathaway
Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare
The Outlaw Demon Waits by Kim Harrison
[Read-a-thon]Bout of Books 11: Day 2 Recap
We're already on Day 3! Wahoo! Yesterday was pretty good. I've got 100 pages of Dreams of Gods and Monsters left and about three hours left of Fangirl left (it's a 12 hr listen). Oh the joys of unemployment, more reading (but seriously, get a job. I'm going crazy in this house!).
RECAP:
Last left off: 2h30Currently on: 9h50Listened to: 7 hoursI have just been devouring this novel. I can't wait to finish it, but then again I don't want it to end! I'll have to get another audiobook lined up once I finish this one. I wonder what it'll be, any recs?

Last left off: Page 402Currently on: 516I have less than 100 pages left! Finally! I plan on finishing this tonight, I wonder how this will all tie together. Ending this series is super bittersweet, sometimes I wish I could go back to the innocent days of Daughter of Smoke and Bone.
CHALLENGES:
I think I'm getting sick (how appropriate) so I don't know if I'll be able to participate in the twitter chat tonight. Boo. Oh well, back to the books i go!
