This Week:

L'Enfant du Sable by Tahar Ben Jelloun

This book was chosen for me it was one of the required reading for class. It's about Ahmed who is the eighth daughter of her family, except she isn't. Her parents decide to raise her as a man so s/he is privy to some knowledge and activities that her family is not. Ahmed experiences a lot of gender confusion as s/he comes into her own and wonders what it is that she wants.

I really did enjoy this book. It's written in the first perspective so the reader gets a first hand look at all of Ahmed's confusion, like her arranged marriage. If you're into gender roles and things like that, I would recommend it, and honestly I would read it again.
